Can’t Wait to Explore Prince Edward Island!

Three months to go before we finally make the big move to Canada!

Last week, we finally booked our one-way tickets to Canada. It suddenly feels all too surreal and time seems to go by quicker now that we’ve started to accomplish the major things one needs to do before migrating to another country.

It is indeed a very bittersweet time in our lives.

We decided to leave on the month of June for one main reason – the weather. Since we’ll be going to Prince Edward Island, we wanted to be able to take advantage of the great summer season of the island. Also, the relatively warm temperatures during that season will allow us an easier transition to Canada’s climate.

Here’s our planned itinerary:

  • Manila – Toronto (via PAL, with a layover in Vancouver)
  • Stay in Toronto for a couple of nights to meet with a few friends, maybe do a little sightseeing of the CN Tower and the Niagara Falls
  • Toronto – Charlottetown (via Air Canada Rouge)

Our Pre-Departure Orientation Seminar (PDOS) Experience!

In our last post, we wrote a short guide on how to register for your PDOS at the Commission for Filipinos Overseas (CFO). In this post, we’ll share our actual experience and thoughts about the seminar after attending it last Friday, March 10, 2017.

What to Bring

  • PDOS Registration Form (per person, required)
  • Landing Papers (per person, required)
  • Valid Government ID (per person, required)
  • P400 (per person, required)
  • Pen (will be used to fill out forms)
  • Water and snacks (optional, have to be consumed discreetly)

Please do not forget to bring the required items since you will not be able to attend the seminar if you do not have all of them. The pen will be needed for the forms that you will fill out for Comelec and Pathways to Canada. As for snacks and drinks, I wasn’t allowed to bring my Jollibee coffee inside, but was able to discreetly drink water and nibble on stuff that were inside our bags… so I guess as long as the food/drink is not out in the open, it should be okay.

Registering for the Pre-Departure Orientation Seminar at the Commission on Filipinos Overseas

Before a Filipino emigrant can leave the country, he or she will have to attend the Pre-Departure Orientation Seminar (PDOS) given by the Commission on Filipinos Overseas (CFO) in Manila. This is a required seminar for any Filipino moving to another country. It is mandated by the law and immigration will not clear you to leave the country without proving that you have attended the PDOS.

Thankfully, registering for the seminar is relatively easy. In this post, we’ll give you a general outline on what to do to secure your PDOS slot. Oh! But please remember that you will need to already have your Permanent Resident Visa and official Landing Papers before you can register for the PDOS.
